The last day

I am happy as well as sad that we have come to the end of this wonderful and short course. I am happy because I have learnt a lot which I would not learn from my country and I have met so many good people from different countries. I have learnt to live with all kinds of people with different characters from different countries.I believe that this course is very important for all Librarians especially those coming from the poorer countries in Africa. I would like to that Prof. Bothma, Dr. Marlene and the whole team for coming up with such a wonderful idea and I believe that I will implement at least 2 innovations learnt from the CPD course.

Preparation for presentation

Finally we are done with class work and we are now preparing for the final presentation. It is such a stressful night but the presentation is coming together. I cant wait to present tomorrow and be done with everything. Of course there is still the take home assignment but I will at least breathe better knowing that I am done with the CPD course

Research data management

After the long weekend, we went back to our normal routine of lectures and I enjoyed the lecture on research data management although in the beginning it was abit confusing but I caught up and I see now that it is an integral part of the research process. I just need to continue learning and understanding how it works thoroughly because it is interesting

Human rights day

Happy human rights day! I think this is the only country in Africa where such a theme is celebrated. I wish that all the other African countries will follow South Africa and value the human rights of its citizens. We still have too much work to do on the final assignment and have no time to do other things but what is good is thatwe now just counting days to go home.

Visit to Soweto

Finally we had some time off to rest and relax our minds with the visit to Soweto. I loved the experience of the visit and to see how the other side of this country lives like however i must say that the problems that are here are the same all over Africa only that South Africa is far ahead of the rest of Africa in dealing with issues like poverty, limited water supply, un employment etc. Although I wish that we had actually gone into the apartheid museum and really seen the documentation of apartheid in South Africa.

Friday, 18 March 2016

Finally the week is over and home seems closer now. I must say that the stress is finally wearing off and I am more relaxed now. This week has really been packed with so many assignments to do but thank God it is over and we get to do some sight seeing tomorrow at Soweto. I cant wait to go and see the epicenter for the struggle against apartheid in South Africa since many people have told me that it is a must see place when I come here.

Institutional repositories

Today was a cold day and I found it hard getting out of bed but I had to get out because i remembered that i had lessons to attend. I must say that I really enjoyed the lectures on Institutional repositories because I believe that it is one new and at least affordable development that my library can introduce. I know that it will be difficult at the beginning because my bosses may not be positive towards this new development because in all honesty all they care about is themselves and not the future of the library but i wont give up and try to push for it to come to pass
